The snow that accompanies these weeks
In recent days, snow has returned to the Dolomites and the Cadore area, reshaping landscapes, rhythms, and daily life. In Lorenzago, the streets grow quieter, the forests turn white again, and winter regains that full presence that invites a slower pace.
It is the kind of snow that slows everything down, but also the one that restores authenticity. Walking through the village or nearby paths means rediscovering the muffled sound of footsteps, the crisp clean air, and a mountain that seems to return to its natural time.
The Olympics now truly present
This year, however, winter is not only about snow. The atmosphere of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics is now real and close. It can be felt not only in the competitions or venues, but also in the general mood across the valley: more attention, more movement, more curiosity about what is happening in the Dolomites.
The mountains of the Belluno area, historically connected to winter sports, are once again at the center of the international stage, while the villages of Cadore continue to live them in their discreet and everyday way.
Cortina within reach for the day
From Lorenzago, Cortina d’Ampezzo can be reached in about 40 minutes. During the Olympics, however, access to the Ampezzo valley is regulated: those with an official pass or authorized event parking can arrive by car, while for many spectators the easiest option is to use public transport.
These days Cortina can also be reached by Dolomitibus and dedicated shuttle services, departing from Central Cadore stops such as Calalzo, Pieve di Cadore, and other villages in the valley. It is a practical way to avoid traffic and access restrictions, reaching the competition areas directly and returning calmly to Lorenzago afterwards.
This makes it possible to plan a day among the Olympic events, experience the international atmosphere of Cortina, and then return in the evening to the quiet of Lorenzago, where the rhythm remains that of the mountains.
The events and the energy of Cortina
Cortina hosts some of the most iconic winter sports disciplines. The Tofane slopes welcome the women’s alpine skiing competitions, while the Curling Olympic Stadium and the Eugenio Monti track bring historic disciplines such as curling, bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton back into the spotlight.
These events turn Cortina into an international meeting point, yet still close enough to be experienced while staying in the Cadore area.
Cadore remains true to itself
Despite the major event, Lorenzago keeps its identity. Here, winter is still made of simple things: a walk in the woods, the light on the peaks, time that seems to stretch.
The Olympics bring movement and visibility, but they do not change the character of these places. If anything, they make it more evident: the possibility of being close to something big without losing the intimate dimension of the mountains.
A winter to experience in balance
Perhaps this is the most special aspect of these weeks: the chance to combine two different experiences. On one side, the energy of the Olympics; on the other, the calm of the snow-covered Cadore.
Lorenzago thus becomes a natural starting point: close enough to take part, quiet enough to remain. A place where you can experience the Dolomites in their truest winter form, just as the world is watching them.
