A Winter That Speaks of Art
In these weeks, while snow continues to cover mountains and forests in white and the Cadore valley lives the intensity of the winter season, culture also finds its place. Just a few kilometres from Lorenzago, in Pieve di Cadore, an exhibition dedicated to one of the greatest painters in history, Titian Vecellio, is taking place in the very town where he was born.
The mountains, the silence and the light that can be experienced here seem to naturally dialogue with the artist’s paintings and engravings, offering an experience that brings together nature, history and identity.
The Exhibition. Titian and the Landscape
From 23 January to 29 March 2026, the Palazzo della Magnifica Comunità di Cadore hosts the exhibition “Titian and the Landscape. From Cadore to the Lagoon. The Gozzi Altarpiece and the Pharaoh’s Submersion”.
At the centre of the exhibition are 2 symbolic works. The monumental Gozzi Altarpiece, over 3 metres high, and the woodcut depicting the Submersion of Pharaoh’s Army in the Red Sea. In both works, the landscape is not a simple background, but an integral part of the visual narrative, enhancing the meaning and emotional depth of the scene.
The Gozzi Altarpiece, completed in 1520 and now preserved in the Civic Art Gallery of Ancona, bears the signature “Titianus Cadorinus”, a direct reference to the artist’s Cadore origins. Seeing it exhibited in his homeland carries a particularly meaningful symbolic value.
Almost 2.000 Visitors in 1 Month
Interest in the exhibition was immediate. In less than 1 month, nearly 2.000 visitors attended, confirming the cultural appeal that the territory is capable of generating.
This is not only an exhibition, but also a moment that strengthens the bond between Cadore and one of its most celebrated figures, reminding us that these mountains are not only a natural landscape, but also a place of history and creativity.
Pieve di Cadore Within Easy Reach
From Lorenzago di Cadore, reaching Pieve is simple and quick. In just a few minutes you arrive in the historic centre, among ancient buildings and quiet squares, with the opportunity to combine the exhibition visit with a walk through the village.
A day can easily alternate art and landscape. A visit to the Palazzo della Magnifica Comunità, a short stop in the main square, and a view of the snow-covered peaks surrounding the valley.
An Experience to Enjoy Now
In a winter that sees the Dolomites at the centre of international attention, this exhibition offers a different and quieter experience, yet equally meaningful. It is an invitation to discover the territory through its artistic history, connecting past and present.
For those staying at Ca’ Gemma, it is an experience that enriches the journey. Not only mountains and snow, but also culture, memory and identity.
